Disable creation of short names in NT file system (NTFS).
Disable last access update in NT file system (NTFS).
Speed up menu display.
Shutdown XP faster.
Change the Registered Owner of the installed Windows XP operating system.
Change the Registered Organization of the installed Windows XP operating system.
Disable CD-ROM autorun.
Display the Windows version on the desktop.
Display a notice, reminder, or warning message during Windows logon.
Change the system font.
Click the Modify button to synchronize your clock every day, or click the Restore Default button to synchronize every week. XP synchronizes the system clock with the Internet every week (double-click on the time in the lower right corner, click on "Internet Time" tab, and make sure the selection "Automatically synchronize with an Internet time server" is checked. I prefer setting the server to "time.nist.gov" because it is the atomic clock).
Click the Modify button to disable creation of short names, or click the Restore Default button to enable it. By default, NTFS generates the style of file name that consists of eight characters, followed by a period and a three-character extension for compatibility with MS-DOS and Microsoft« Windows« 3.x clients. If you are not supporting these types of clients, the creation of short names can be disabled.
Click the Modify button to disable last access update, or click the Restore Default button to enable it. By default NTFS updates the date and time stamp of the last access on directories whenever it traverses the directory. For a large NTFS volume, this update process can slow performance. By disabling this option, NTFS will not record the last time a file was accessed. This can speed up disk operations if applications are written to access many small files very frequently as is found in many pseudo database applications (Modification timestamps will still be made).
Enter a menu display speed (400 being the default) into the edit text box and press Enter or click the modify button. Lower values result in faster display. Valid values are 0 - 1000.
Click the Modify button to shutdown XP faster, or click the Restore Default button for the default setting. When a user shuts down Windows XP, first the system has to kill all services currently running. Every once in a while the service does not shut down instantly and windows gives it a chance to shut down on its own before it kills it. You can modify it's behavior so it shuts down faster.
Enter a name for the Registered Owner into the edit text box and press Enter or click the modify button.
Enter a name for the Registered Organization into the edit text box and press Enter or click the modify button.
Click the Modify button to disable CD-ROM autorun, or click the Restore Default button to enable it. When CD-ROM autorun is enabled, inserting a CD-ROM automatically activates a window allowing you to view the contents of the CD. If this annoys you, turn off autorun.
Click the Modify button to display the Windows version on the desktop, or click the Restore Default button to disable it. A useless vanity that some geekazoids may enjoy. The Windows version will display upon boot up.
Enter the logon message (maximum 100 characters including spaces) into the edit text box and press Enter or click the modify button. Or, with an empty edit box, press Enter or click the modify button to disable the logon notice.
Enter a name for the system font (Ex. Arial, Tahoma Times New Roman, etc), into the edit text box and press Enter or click the modify button. Or, with an empty edit box, press Enter or click the modify button to use the default font (Microsoft Sans Serif). You will only see the font changed in option windows, and other miscellaneous places. The change won't take place until boot up.
